Most Wi-Fi trouble on a PC is fixed by a setting or a restart of the internet box. Try these in order.
This page is for you if
- Web pages won't load
- It says No internet
- Your Wi-Fi doesn't say Connected
Do these steps
-
Step 1: Check Wi-Fi is on
Click the network, sound and battery icons next to the clock, at the bottom right of the screen. Make sure Wi-Fi is on and your network says Connected.
-
Step 2: Check Airplane mode
Click Start, Settings, Network & internet. Make sure Airplane mode is off.
-
Step 3: Forget and rejoin the network
In Network & internet, click Wi-Fi, then Manage known networks. Click your network and choose Forget. Then connect again and type the Wi-Fi password.
-
Step 4: Restart the modem and router
Unplug both. Wait at least 30 seconds. Plug in the modem and wait until its lights stop blinking. Then plug in the router and wait a few minutes.
-
Step 5: Check another device
Try the internet on a phone or tablet. If nothing works, call your internet company.
-
Step 6: Restart the computer
Click Start, the Power button, then Restart.
Good to know
- Have your Wi-Fi password ready before you forget the network. It's often on a sticker on the router.
