Your Mac is on Wi-Fi but can't get online. Try these steps.

If your Mac says it's on Wi-Fi but nothing loads, these steps usually get it back online.

This page is for you if

  • Websites and email won't load
  • Wi-Fi looks connected but nothing works

Do these steps

  1. Step 1: Check you're on your Wi-Fi

Click Wi-Fi in the menu bar at the top of the screen, or in Control Center. Make sure your home network is picked.

  2. Step 2: Restart your Mac

Click the Apple menu and choose Restart. Apple says restarting can help because your Mac gets a fresh internet address.

  3. Step 3: Check the date and time

Make sure the date and time on your Mac are right.

  4. Step 4: Restart the router

Unplug the Wi-Fi router, wait a bit, and plug it back in. Wait a few minutes for it to start up.

  5. Step 5: Look for Wi-Fi Recommendations

Click Wi-Fi in the menu bar or Control Center. If you see Wi-Fi Recommendations, choose it. Your Mac found a problem and will suggest a fix.

  6. Step 6: Try another network

If your Mac works on another Wi-Fi network, the problem is your router or internet service. Call your internet company to check for an outage.
