Connect headphones, a speaker or your car to an Android phone or tablet

For: Android phone or tablet

Last checked October 14, 2026 against official help from Google. Written for Android 15 and up.

Bluetooth lets your phone or tablet talk to headphones, speakers and the car without a cord. You pair it once and it connects on its own after that.

This page is for you if

  • New headphones or a speaker won't show up
  • The car won't connect to your phone

Good to know first

These are Google's steps for Android 15 and up. Samsung and other brands can look a little different. Hearing aids have their own steps.

Do these steps

  1. Step 1: Put the accessory in pairing mode

Follow the accessory's instructions to make it ready to pair.

  2. Step 2: Open Bluetooth

Swipe down from the top of the screen. Touch and hold Bluetooth.

  3. Step 3: Tap Pair new device

Tap Pair new device. If you don't see it, look under Available devices.

  4. Step 4: Tap the accessory

Tap the name of your headphones, speaker or car. Follow what the screen says.

  5. Step 5: If it asks for a code

Check the accessory's instructions. Google says common codes are 0000 or 1234.

Reconnect or remove it later

  1. Step 1: Reconnect

Swipe down, touch and hold Bluetooth. Under Saved devices, tap the accessory. It says Connected when it's ready.

  2. Step 2: Forget it

Next to the accessory's name, tap Settings, then Forget. Then you can pair it again from step 1.

Good to know

  • If you see a pop-up offering to pair new headphones, that's Fast Pair. Tap it to connect in one step.
