Your TV says No Signal. Here's how to get the picture back.

For: Any TV with a cable box, Roku or other box plugged in

Last checked October 14, 2026 against official help from Samsung and Roku. Written for Most TVs with HDMI inputs.

"No Signal" often means the TV is looking at the wrong input. The fix can be one button.

This page is for you if

  • The TV says No Signal, Weak Signal or Check Signal Cable
  • The TV is on but the screen is black
  • Someone pressed a button and now nothing shows

Why this happens

A TV has several inputs, like HDMI 1 and HDMI 2. Roku says the most common cause of a black screen is that the TV is set to a different input than the one your box is plugged into.

Do these steps

  1. Step 1: Turn on the box

Make sure the cable box, Roku, DVD player or other box is turned on.

  2. Step 2: Press Input or Source

On the TV's remote, press Input, Source or Video. Step through the inputs one at a time. Wait about 10 seconds on each one.

  3. Step 3: Match the input to the plug

Look at where the box's cable plugs into the TV. If it says HDMI 2, pick HDMI 2.

  4. Step 4: Check the cable

Push the HDMI cable in firmly at both ends. If you have another HDMI cable, try it.

  5. Step 5: Restart the box

Unplug the box's power cord, then plug it back in. For a streaming stick, take it out of the TV and plug it back in too.

  6. Step 6: Try another box or another TV

If a different box works on the same input, the first box has the problem. If nothing works on any input, the TV may need service.

Good to know

  • Your TV's own help: Samsung, LG, Vizio, Roku.
  • With a Roku stick, Roku says to use the power adapter that came with it and plug it into the wall.
