Can't sign in to your Medicare.gov account? Start here.
Signing in to Medicare.gov changed. Here's how it works now and who can help when you're stuck.
This page is for you if
- Your old Medicare username and password stopped working
- Medicare.gov sends you to ID.me, CLEAR or Login.gov
- You can't remember how you signed in last time
Why this happens
Medicare.gov now uses ID.me, CLEAR or Login.gov to check who you are. Once you connect your Medicare account to one of them, your old Medicare username and password no longer work. You sign in through that service instead.
Do these steps
-
Step 1: Go to Medicare.gov yourself
Type medicare.gov into your browser. Don't use a link from a text or an email you weren't expecting.
-
Step 2: Sign in with the service you picked
Choose the same service you used before: ID.me, CLEAR or Login.gov. Sign in with that service's email and password.
-
Step 3: Stuck at the sign-in step
If the problem is signing in to ID.me, CLEAR or Login.gov, contact that service. Medicare's log-in help page links to each one.
-
Step 4: Stuck with your Medicare account
For questions about your coverage or your Medicare account, call 1-800-MEDICARE (1-800-633-4227). TTY: 1-877-486-2048. Medicare also has live chat on its website.
Got a letter about your Medicare account you didn't ask for?
- Medicare says to call 1-800-MEDICARE (1-800-633-4227) right away. TTY: 1-877-486-2048.
Good to know
- Medicare says to use your own email address when you sign up, not one you share with a spouse or anyone else.
- To set up a new account you'll need your Medicare Number. To check who you are online, you'll be asked for a photo ID, your Social Security Number and a photo or video of yourself.
- If you don't have a smartphone or computer, call 1-800-MEDICARE for help.
