Forgot your Google or Gmail password? Here's how to get back in.

For: Google Account (Gmail or Android)

Last checked October 14, 2026 against official help from Google. Written for Google Account.

If you're locked out of Gmail or your Android phone keeps asking for a password, Google's recovery page is the only safe place to fix it.

This page is for you if

  • You can't sign in to Gmail
  • Your Android phone asks for your Google password
  • You forgot which email address you use

Why this happens

Your Google Account is the email and password you use for Gmail, Google Photos and Google Play on Android.

Do these steps

  1. Step 1: Go to Google's recovery page

On any phone or computer, go to accounts.google.com/signin/recovery.

  2. Step 2: Answer the questions

Google asks some questions to make sure it's you. Answer as best you can. Wrong guesses won't lock you out.

  3. Step 3: Make a new password

When Google asks, make a new password. Pick one you haven't used for this account before.

  4. Step 4: Forgot your email address?

Google can help you find it. You'll need the phone number or backup email on the account, plus the full name on the account.

Good to know

  • There's no limit on how many times you can try.
  • If you change your recovery phone or email, it can take up to 7 days to start working. Try again in a few days.
  • You can't call Google to get back in. Google doesn't work with any service that says it can reset your password. Anyone who offers is a scammer.
